STANDARDIZED TESTING
Standardized testing provides cadets with opportunities to demonstrate academic readiness, identify strengths, and prepare for future educational goals.
Through College Board programs such as the PSAT/NMSQT, SAT, and Advanced Placement (AP) exams, cadets gain valuable insights into their academic progress while strengthening their college and career opportunities.
The College Placement and Academic Services Office provides guidance and support throughout the testing process, helping cadets make informed decisions and maximize their potential for success beyond Fork Union Military Academy.
The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®) is designed to help students assess their college readiness while preparing for future SAT testing. Administered primarily to juniors, the PSAT/NMSQT® measures skills in reading, writing, and mathematics and serves as the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship Program. In addition to providing valuable practice for the SAT, score reports offer personalized insights into academic strengths and areas for growth, helping students plan for future educational opportunities.
PSAT/NMSQT (11th Grade)

In addition to providing valuable SAT practice, score reports offer personalized insights into academic strengths and areas for growth, helping students plan for future educational opportunities.
PSAT/NMSQT provides an opportunity for the National Merit Scholarship. This is the only PSAT administration that qualifies a student for this scholarship.
This test is administered in the fall (October). Fork Union Military Academy provides this opportunity to all juniors as well as handles the registration. Scores are not reported to colleges.
PSAT10 (9th & 10th Grade)
The PSAT 10 is a college-readiness assessment administered to interested freshmen and sophomores, providing an early opportunity to experience the SAT format. Covering the same content areas as the SAT and PSAT/NMSQT®, the exam helps students evaluate their academic progress, identify strengths, and determine areas for improvement. Through detailed score reports and personalized resources, students gain valuable feedback that can guide future coursework, testing preparation, and college planning.
This test is administered in the spring (March-April). Fork Union Military Academy provides this as an optional administration for interested 9th- and 10th-grade students at an additional fee. Fork Union Military Academy handles the registration for interested cadets. Scores are not reported to colleges.
The SAT® provides students with an opportunity to demonstrate college readiness and showcase their academic skills to colleges and universities.
Through assessments in reading, writing, and mathematics, students gain valuable insights into their strengths that support college admission, scholarship, and placement opportunities.

Step-by-Step SAT Registration
1. Create a College Board Account

Visit the College Board website and create a student account. Be sure to use your legal name as it appears on school and testing documents.
We strongly encourage cadets to use their FUMA email addresses when registering for their College Board accounts. This provides cadets immediate access to email communication when registering for the SAT. Cadets must know their username and password on test day to log in to BlueBook to take the exam.
2. Select an SAT Test Date

Review available SAT administration dates and determine which testing date best aligns with your college application timeline. SAT scores must be submitted by the application deadline, if required, for the application to be reviewed and receive an admission decision.
**Pleae check all athlete events and club sponsored events to ensure there are no conflicts with the testing dates below.**

3. Choose a Testing Location

Search for and select a testing center. Testing locations may fill quickly, so early registration is encouraged.
**When you create an account, use Fork Union Military Academy's address to ensure FUMA is a testing location. This is the address you will include for Personal Information. If you use your home address, the testing zip code and address will not match. This will cause an issue when creating a College Board account.

4. Complete Registration Information

Provide personal, academic, and contact information as requested by the College Board. Review all entries carefully for accuracy.
5. Upload a Photo (if required)

Submit a recent, recognizable photo that meets College Board requirements for test-day identification.

6. Request Accommodations (if applicable)

Students approved for testing accommodations should ensure accommodations are approved through College Board prior to registration.

This must be done, at minimum, 7 weeks prior to the test date for accommodations to be implemented.

**NOTE: Service Academies will not accept SAT scores with accommodations. Please check scholarship requirements to know the requirements prior to registering**

7. Pay Registration Fees

Submit payment online or utilize an approved fee waiver if eligible.

The registration fee is $68.00. Must have a form of payment to complete the registration. The registration will time out if not completed within the time allotted.
8. Review and Submit Registration

Carefully review all registration details, including the test date, location, and personal information before submitting.
9. Print or Save Your Admission Ticket

Once registration is complete, save a copy of your admission ticket and confirmation information for test day.

Make sure you have access to the Blue Book App on your laptop. You can access your ticket in Blue Book.
10. Prepare for Test Day

Review testing requirements, bring acceptable identification, and arrive at the testing center on time with all required materials.
FUMA Tip: Students should consult with their college counselor before registering to discuss testing timelines, college admission requirements, superscoring policies, and scholarship opportunities. This helps ensure SAT testing aligns with each student's postsecondary goals.
ADVANCED PLACEMENT TESTING
Advanced Placement (AP®) Exams provide students with an opportunity to demonstrate academic achievement in college-level courses while still in high school.
Through rigorous coursework and end-of-course examinations, students showcase subject-area knowledge, strengthen college applications, and may qualify for college credit or advanced placement.
By challenging themselves academically and engaging in advanced learning opportunities, students develop the skills and confidence needed for success in higher education.
AP Exams occur in the first part of May. It is the choice of the cadet and the family to register for the AP exam. The decision must be communicated to both the teacher and the Test Coordinator, Mrs. Hill. The AP Exam fee is $99.00 and is at the family's expense.
Colleges and Universities may accept AP Scores as college credit. That decision falls within the institutes policies. Some institutions will use AP Scores as placemnt test scores.

The ACT is a nationally recognized college entrance exam that measures students’ readiness for college through assessments in English, Mathematics, and Reading. The ACT also offers an optional Science section, which measures scientific reasoning, data analysis, and problem-solving skills, and an optional Writing section that evaluates students’ ability to develop and support ideas in a written response.
Many colleges and universities accept either the ACT or SAT as part of the admissions process.

Fork Union Military Academy does not administer the ACT on campus. Students who wish to take the ACT are responsible for registering for a national test date at an authorized testing center. Transportation is the responsibility of the family to and from the testing center.
